December 19 2001 -- Schroeder YMCA
Swim Team athletes Sara Petric and Garrett Weber-Gale both qualified for
the USA National Swimming Championships to be held in Minneapolis, MN,

13-16.
Petric, a sprint freestyle specialist,
recently won two events at the Wisconsin State High School Championships

University. Petric’s time of 23.34 in the 50 yard freestyle was well
below the qualifying standard for the United States National Swimming Championships.
Weber-Gale, a Junior at Nicolet High School, is the defending WIAA champion
in the 100 yard backstroke. Weber-Gale’s time of 49.89 is just .01

to help teams select meet dates and avoid conflicts, Wisconsin Swimming
has started a Long Range Meet Calendar.

finalized in January and June. As you reserve your facilities for
meets, send an email to the webmaster,
and we will post your dates. Check the schedule to see what other
teams are doing on the dates you are considering. If enough teams
participate, it should help even out the meet schedule and prevent weekends
with too many sparsely attended meets. LAKE has started us off with
their meet schedule for the next long course and short course seasons.
Please include the following information when you email:
-
Date
-
Meet Name and Format

Complete minutes from the Convention, including all legislation is available

July 24, 2001 -- A new virus (actually
a worm) has been making the rounds of swim teams in Wisconsin. It is called
W32.sircom.worm. When it infects a computer it sends out email under that
user's name with an attachment that looks like a real file, but is the
worm instead. The body of the email looks like this:
Hi! How are you?
I send you this file in
order to have your advice
See you later. Thanks
This is just a reminder of some rules for
safe computing:
-
If you don't have virus protection, get it!
Good names are Norton Anivirus from Symantec
, and McAfee VirusScan from Networks Associates
.
-
Update your virus software regularly (this
worm was only recently discovered).
-
Don't open attachments you aren't expecting.
-
Look carefully at attachments. If they have
endings like .PIF, .COM, .EXE, .VBS, be suspicious. Don't open them!
-
Finally, not all virus warnings are true.
If someone sends you an email with a virus warning and says to send it
to everyone you know, DON'T. Check out the virus yourself at one of the
two virus sites above. They both have extensive libraries of real viruses
and of hoaxes.

is over, coaches should send OVC request, Top-16, and Wisconsin Record

February 15, 2001 -- At the January
23 LSC meeting, legislation was passed to require all teams participating
in this year's Summer State meet to provide timers in proportion to the
number of individual entries submitted to last year's Long Course meet.
Every team participating is required to staff at least one lane for one
session. Each lane requires two timers. Teams may reserve any combination
of sessions to satisfy their requirement. Use
this form to reserve your lane assignment. Sessions will be assigned
on a first-come-first-served basis from reservations received postmarked
on or after March 13 - just like meet reservations.
The rationale is this: No team had bid
the state meet as of the LSC meeting, so VAC and MAST joined forces to
co-host the meet, but were unable to staff the timer positions. The
alternative would have been the LSC running the meet in which case all
teams would have had to supply timers.
The Event Schedule for the Summer State
Meet is expected to be the same as last year. Click
Here for the 2000 Long Course State Meet Event List. Remember
that the 2001 dates are August 2-5.
February 7, 2001 -- The FAST Pentathlon
meet scheduled for June 16 is NOT a single session. It should be
listed as: AM:8&U,10&U; PM:11-12,13-14,15&O. The document
links below have been updated.
February 1, 2001 -- The MCC Swimming
and Diving Championships is scheduled to be hosted by the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers at the Shroeder YMCA and Aquatic Center Wednesday,
February, 21 through Saturday, February 24, 2001. This is a great opportunity
for parents and athletes to see that there are more options than just the
big 10 and comparable conferences. Anyone who would like to volunteer
to time on either Thurs, either session, Fri Prelims, or Saturday (both
sessions) should email Bruce Maas at bmaas@uwm.edu
or call during the day at 414-229-2834 or in the evening at 414-332-9843.
Free admission heat sheets for timers. See the UWM
Panthers website for information.
February 1, 2001 -- From Denny Pursley,
National Team Director, USA Swimming:
Please note the following rules about body
suits.
FINA rule GR 6.4 states: "Before any swimsuit
of new design (i.e. body suits), construction or material is used in competition,
the manufacturer of such swimsuit must submit the swimsuit to FINA and
obtain approval of FINA".
As of today, ONLY the following have been
approved by FINA: Adidas, Arena, Speedo, Tyr. Other brands cannot
be worn until they are in compliance with the above rule.
Direct all comments or questions to Denny
Pursley at dpursley@usa-swimming.org.

Swimming Summer 2001 Meet Schedule is here!
Meet reservations may be postmarked no sooner
than Tuesday, March 13, 2001. Meet Directors: if you would like your e-mail
address posted with the schedule, send to the webmaster.
After receiving a sanction for your meet, please send the meet info to
the webmaster as an e-mail
attachment if you would like it posted. Remember that posting the meet
info cannot replace mailing copies to Wisconsin teams as required by LSC
rules.
January 31, 2001 -- For those of
you working from the Draft Meet Schedule distributed at the LSC meeting
last week, New Berlin Swim Club has changed the date of their July meet
at Wilson Park to Saturday, July 14. The Official Meet Schedule will
be mailed soon and posted here.
January 31, 2001 -- NEW LSC TRAVEL
FUND POLICY
At the October, 2000, LSC meeting, a new
policy for travel reimbursement was passed by the LSC representatives.
The two parts of the new policy are as follows:
-
The amount paid to the LSC travel fund by
the host club from meet entry fees has been reduced by 50%. This
means clubs keep more money from the meets they host.
-
Reimbursements to athletes attending Nationals,
Sectional meets, and Zone C meets, will be paid according to the following
formula:
-
National swimmers will be eligible for reimbursement
in both the spring and the summer. Individual qualifiers will be
reimbursed $400, and relay only swimmers $200.
-
Olympic Trials swimmers will be reimbursed
$600.
-
Sectionals (replaces Junior Championships),
and Zone C swimmers will be reimbursed $100 for only one of the meets,
and only in the summer.
Zone C swimmers will now need to pay the entire
cost of attending the Zone C meet, with reimbursement going to the clubs
after filing the appropriate forms with the LSC Treasurer.
Beginning in 2001, these changes will be
effective for all National, Sectional, and Zone C meets. If you have
any questions or comments, please contact your club’s LSC representative,
or a member of the LSC Board of Directors.
January 31, 2001 -- Ever been frustrated
looking for that form? Now all the forms you need (a lot of them,
anyway) are here in one place on the Wisconsin Swimming
Forms
Page.

Championships. The meet is hosted by the TWIN Cities Swim
Team at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

State Time Standards:
January 9,
2001 -- Many people have been asking for information about the Wisconsin
Sectional meets. Here is some preliminary info about entries and
eligibility.
Swimmers may compete
in THREE (3) individual events per day plus relays. Swimmers may compete
in a maximum of SEVEN (7) individual events for the entire meet plus relays.
Deck entries for high school boys will be allowed at any time (must prove
USA registration at the meet). 10 & Under, 11-12, and 13-14 swimmers
may not swim in an event in their age group in which they have achieved
a state cut before February 6, 2001. All swimmers who have achieved state
cuts may swim their events in the Senior category. A swimmer that achieves
a state cut after February 6, 2001 may still swim in that event at Sectionals.
Any 8 & Under swimmer may swim in any 8 & Under event regardless
of seed time. All swimmers must be registered USA swimmers and their USA
number MUST be listed on the official entry form. This includes relay-only
swimmers. Submit current yard times.
Sectional meet Info is now available:
The State Sectional meets are different from
the new Zone Sectional meets, which are different from the summer "Zones"
meet. For information on the Zone Sectional meets, see the
Zone
Sectional Preliminary Information Page, including a NEW
FAQ section. The summer "Zones" meet is unchanged. For information
about that meet, see the Zone C Page and look
