January 27, 2000 -- Beginning
May 1, 2000, USA Swimming has mandated that all meets use the new FINA
whistle start procedures. You might have some questions, like . . .
Q. What the heck is a whistle start?
A. It replaces the verbal commands
given by the starter (event, heat, distance, stroke) with a series if short
and long whistles by the referee.
Q. Sounds confusing, is it?
A. Not really! It has been
used in international competition for some time, and is being used in all
National meets, and many regional meets now.
Q. Won't our younger swimmers have
trouble?
A. In fact at a recent swim meet
in Indianapolis many of our younger swimmers were exposed to the whistle
start for the first time. They caught right on.
Q. How will I know when to be at the
blocks?
A. You will just have to pay a
little more attention to what is going on.
Q. How can I find out more?
A. I'm glad you asked! CLICK
HERE for the details!

Y2K News from Hy-Tek
January 2, 2000 -- Hy-Tek
has released a Maintenance Update of TEAM MANAGER for Windows - Release
1.6 Update O. This release can be downloaded FREE from Hy-Tek's
Web Site at www.hy-tekltd.com.
This release contains a Y2K Correction for computers who do not have
their Windows date set to a 4 year format (like mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy)
The problem affects the display of athlete birth dates and meet dates.
Hy-Tek also recommends the following procedure for changing the Windows
"short date style" to include a 4 digit year.
To verify your settings, click Start
/ Settings / Control Panel. Then double click on Regional Settings.
Now click on the Date tab, and if your Short Date Style does
not have 4 y's in it, you should select one that does. If in the choice
of date formats, there is not one with 4 y's in it, you can create a custom
one by simply typing 2 more y's into the Short Date Style window. As an
example, you could convert mm/dd/yy to mm/dd/yyyy or dd.m.yy to dd.m.yyyy.
