Board of Directors Meeting Minutes: January 26, 1999
University of Wisconsin, Waukesha Center

Members Present: Carol Graham, Bob Jenkyns, Patty Kramer, Cathi Marty, Mary Schneider, Barb Stirn, Drew Walden; Guest: Bob White

CALL TO ORDER: Barb Stirn, Administrative Chair, called the meeting to order at 5:50 PM.

REVIEW OF OCTOBER 27, 1998 MEETING MINUTES: Not available for review. Cathy Marty, Safety Coordinator, volunteered to have them available for the next meeting.

LSC HANDBOOK: Carol Graham, Registration/Membership Coordinator and LSC Staff Coordinator, reported that next LSC Handbook will be available in a three ring binder to ease its updating as needed without having to re-print the Handbook in its entirety. She will distribute Handbooks at the LSC 13 Years and Over Short Course Championships. She will mail the LSC Handbooks to not present at the Championships.

LSC MEETINGS: The Senior and Age Group Committees will meet, if no Club bids for the LSC Long Course Championships, to discuss conducting this Meet.

WHATEVER ELSE IS ON YOUR MIND:

LSC Payment of Central Zone Swimmer Costs: Mary Schneider, Treasurer, reported that the LSC paid $126 per swimmer for expenses. The LSC contribution is set at $125, with the swimmers paying the remainder. 1998 Zone Swimmer fees were: Stay with Team - $185, with $170 for early registration; and Stay on Own -- $40, with $37 for early registration. The Board concurred with the LSC paying the additional $1 per swimmer.

Joe Schweitz is present now.

Proposal for Reimbursement of Coach Expenses: Schneider reported that the Finance Committee reviewed a proposal from the Age Group Committee that the LSC reimburse coaches for their expenses to coach at USA Swimming Junior and National Championships. The Finance Committee recommends such reimbursement with the understanding that the following conditions apply:

$300 Junior Championships
$400 National Championships
$600 Olympic Trials.
Schneider reported that, had such reimbursement been available in recent years, the LSC costs would have been:
Year   LSC Cost
1996 $12,600
1997 $12,100
1998 $10,300

The Board recommended that the reimbursement become effective March 1, 1999 to include USA Swimming Spring Championships and continue through the year 2000.

Clarification of the $2 Splash Fee: The fee continues to apply to individual events only for both the 12 and Under and the 13 and Over LSC Championships and not to relay events.

Proposed Change in LSC House of Delegates Meetings: Drew Walden, Senior Committee Chair, suggested that the Board endorse a recommendation that the House of Delegates meet three times a year -- in October, January and June, with Meet Bids due on December 15th and May 15th. Currently, the LSC House of Delegates meets five times a year -- October, January, March, May, and July, with Meet Bids due two weeks prior to the January and July Meetings. Meet Reservation dates could remain the same. The Board concurred by consensus.

LSC Mailing: February 23rd is the date when Graham will mail meeting minutes and any other item that a Board member of Committee Chair wants mailed to LSC Representatives.

Year 2000 LSC Championship Dates: Walden announced the following dates:

February 25-27, 2000 Sectional Meets
March 3-5, 2000 12 & Under Short Course Championships
March 9 - 12, 2000 13 & Over Short Course Championships
July 27 - 30, 2000 Long Course Championships
Wisconsin Swimming Fax: Graham announced that a fax now was available by dialing the Wisconsin Swimming telephone number (414-243-9778) first.

Awards: Walden said that he was concerned that the LSC's prior vendor for awards was not contacted for a bid for the LSC's new awards. The Age Group Committee will review the contracting for awards.

ADJOURNMENT: The Board adjourned at 6:55 PM by consensus.
