CALL TO ORDER: Barb Stirn, Administrative Chair, called the meeting to order at 5:50 P.M.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Carol Graham asked that the March 17, 1998 minutes be amended to clarify, under Staff Coordinator's duties, item 11, that "maintaining LSC web site is not anticipated before two or three years." Drew Walden moved and Mary Schneider seconded approval of the March 17, 1998 minutes, as amended. Passed.

FALL CONFERENCE: Patty Kramer reported that Dave Clark, Head Swimming Coach for the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, has reserved the following University facilities for Wisconsin Swimming's Fall Conference: the Wisconsin Room - Student Union for the Swimmers' Recognition Dinner on October 10th and for lunch for the Swimmers' Clinic and Fall Conference participants on October 11th; the first floor entry and classrooms of College of Business for Conference sessions on October 11th; and the Klotsch Aquatic Center for the Swimmers' Clinic on October 11th.

NOW PRESENT: Joe Schweitz

The Board affirmed the "Swimmer Recognition Award" criteria as: During the period, September 1, 1997 through August 31,1998, the swimmer was a member of Wisconsin Swimming and: 1) Achieved a USS "Top 16" time in an individual event or as a member of a relay team; or 2) Competed in a USS Junior or National Championship Meet in an individual event; or as a member of a relay team that achieved the event qualifying time at the Meet; or as a member of the "original" relay team that achieved the qualifying time, but did not achieve the qualifying time again at the Meet; or 3) Established a Wisconsin Swimming record in an individual event or as a member of a relay team. To provide better notice to award recipients, the Board agreed to: announce the dinner date and award criteria in the Heat Sheets of at least the Badger State Games and the LSC Long Course Championships; send information to all LSC Head Coaches and ask them to identify, by August 15th (the last date for entries to the USS National Championships), the swimmers on their teams who satisfy the criteria. Head Coaches then are responsible, and not LSC Board members, for identifying award recipients. The LSC will send invitations to the award recipients.

TECHNICAL PLANNING--MISSION STATEMENT: Joe Schweitz, Technical Planning Chairman, reported that the Committee met on April 22, 1998 and drafted a "mission statement" the he will present at the House of Delegates meeting for its consideration, with a recommendation that the House discuss and vote on it use as a new Section 1 to the Wisconsin Swimming Handbook.

WHATEVER ELSE IS ON YOUR MIND:

Letter: Lori Dwyer, President, Ashwaubeon Swim Club (ASC), 3/98, regarding Heat Sheets corrections: Dwyer asks for explanation for an apparent difference in treatment by the LSC 12 and Under Short Course Championship Meet Hosts for making corrections to the Meet entries, i.e., she alleged that some were accepted, ASC's were not. Barb Stirn moved and Patty Kramer seconded: Jim Mohr, LSC General Chairman, write to Dwyer to explain that no changes to the Heat Sheets are made after printing them, except to correct a Meet management error and that, if she is not satisfied with this information, she may ask for review by the LSC Review Committee by writing to Dave Anderson, Committee Chairman. Motion Passed.

Letter: Scott Lemley, California Coach, 5/4/98, regarding "Olympic Anti-Cheating Petition:" Lemley is asking each LSC to circulate a petition among its coaches and swimmers to commit to boycotting all televised programs of the 2000 Olympics, unless Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) bans Chinese swimmers from international competition for two years. Joe Schweitz moved and Drew Walden seconded not supporting Lemley's petition as described above. Motion passed.

LSC Mailing and 1999 Handbook: Carol Graham will mail LSC meeting notices, minutes, etc. on July 2nd. She also asked those who have responsibility for sections of the "Wisconsin Swimming Handbook" to get her disks with the information so that she can begin to prepare the 1999 Handbook.

ADJOURNMENT: By consensus, the Board adjourned at 6:50 PM.
